Remembering Ray

Sitting
holding your eight hands
on the bank of a dry red canal

~

You toss your long hair
and look at me with witcheyes
in silence
you kiss me
and disappear
my heart bursting
like an April balloon.

~

'And I'll always remember
the first time we went out together'
Your eyes misty behind the glass
Earthlight shining in your hair

~

The day before the Carnival leaves town
- a shy dwarf
waiting by the boardwalk
for the beautiful dancer
who never comes
